Online Dating Security
Online dating is the fastest and easiest ways to meet people, married or not married. Online dating has replaced singles bars and night clubs as "the place" to meet new people. How else can you meet people without even leaving your home? Even though online dating sites are the best way to meet people they offer some pitfalls.
With all the thousands of men or women seeing your dating ad there are going to be the "bad apples". people who have the intent of bothering or harassing you for their own enjoyment or reasons. This is where online security comes into place. If you have an online dating ad up you need to be aware of online dating security. What exactly does online dating security mean and consist of? Basically you need to protect you personal information from the bad apples who can ruin the fun for you.
Tips For Protecting Yourself
- Phone numbers - Don't even put your phone number in your dating ad, common sense yes but you be surprised at how many ads I have seen with home or cell phone numbers in the dating ad. For the guys, don't think just because you are male that you are ok. Remember the movie Basic Instinct?
- Job address and location - Do you want random psycho people visiting you at your work? In your personal ad don't put the address or your place of employment unless you want people that you don't know visiting you at work.
- Financial information - This might sound crazy to some people however I have heard stories where lonely men and women have been tricked into to giving bank account and credit card information. Scammers tend to target lonely and vulnerable people online and then build up their trust. Once they have your trust built up they have some sob story about why they need money, blah, blah, blah. After they get what they want (your money), they fade off into the sunset and target the next sucker. Be smart don't give your financial info to anyone!!
There are a few tips for you, so keep your eyes opened.
